The Center’s Objectives
- Training Teachers for the Classroom of Tomorrow: The education system must train superior educators who are equipped to navigate the technology- and knowledge-rich classrooms of the future. We must narrow the widening gap between the knowledge, tools, and skills of teachers and those of their students.
- Educational Technology – Opportunities and Challenges: Educational technologies have significant potential to enhance the teaching and learning experience and narrow social divides. That said, the current workforce shortage in the education system often leads to the recruitment of less-skilled personnel who struggle to adopt advanced technologies – a trend that threatens to deepen disparities between different socioeconomic groups.
- The Negev as a Global Educational Innovation Lab: Kaye College’s initiatives within the Bedouin sector – operating at the intersection of technology, language, multiculturalism, and integration – can serve as an applied testing ground with a world-class educational impact. Models developed in the Negev have the potential to be adapted for peripheral regions and marginalized populations worldwide.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a Gap-Widening or Gap-Narrowing Catalyst: AI tools are evolving rapidly and are currently adopted primarily by advantaged populations. Without proper exposure, training, and accessibility for disadvantaged communities, AI risks becoming a factor that deepens inequality. Encouraging the use of AI and educational technologies, coupled with ongoing pedagogical support, is a prerequisite for bridging gaps in a rapidly evolving world.
- Developing Accessible Tools: Despite significant investments in educational technologies, many remain costly and are mostly accessible to more affluent demographics. Therefore, Kaye College, in collaboration with strategic partners, must develop open-source, customized, and accessible tools that enable the entire population to benefit from technological advancements.
- Language as a Bridge to Society: Language barriers pose a primary obstacle for students and pupils from the Bedouin community, many of whom have limited fluency in Hebrew. The direct consequence is high academic dropout rates and a hindered ability to fully integrate into Israeli society. Integrating educational technologies and culturally and linguistically tailored AI tools can serve as a powerful catalyst for bridging language gaps.
- This will democratize knowledge and educator training from the academic “ivory tower” of the College in Be’er Sheva directly to the peripheral and remote communities, specifically the Negev and throughout the broader southern region.
