About Us

Nibras Arabic Children’s Literacy Center

The Nibras (“Lantern”) Center has been operating at Kaye Academic College of Education since 2018, as part of the B.Ed. program for Early Childhood Education in the Arab-Bedouin society.

Nibras is dedicated to promoting literacy and language enrichment within the Arab society in the Negev. It offers activities and guidance for students, women educators, educational teams, families, and children from birth to age 8.

Goals:

  • Promoting emergent literacy among young children.
  • Enriching children’s language and communication skills.
  • Promoting reading among children in educational settings and at home.
  • Training students and women educators working in the field of early childhood literacy and language enrichment.
  • Empowering parents as partners in their children’s linguistic and literacy development.

To achieve these goals, the Center’s primary activities focus on training, guidance, and mentoring Kaye College students, early childhood professionals (in kindergartens and daycares), and parents in language enrichment and reading to children. These activities include, among others, professional development courses, seminars, community initiatives, and both group and individual guidance. Nibras offers a wide variety of high-quality Arabic children’s books available to students and professionals, who in turn make them accessible to parents and children.

In line with Kaye College’s educational-social philosophy, Nibras applies a context-anchored approach. The Center’s activities are tailored to the nature of the Arab-Bedouin society in the Negev, as well as to the specific characteristics and needs of professionals, families, and communities.
